Low Fidelity

Hello and welcome, fellow yogis! Today I have a very juicy bit of gossip that happened in my studio that I just needed to share with you all!

I have a student – let’s call her Sydney – who has been with me almost since I opened my studio. Over the years she’s had her ups and downs with her husband and children, but I’d noticed for the past six months or so that she was acting unusually downcast and missing an unusual number of classes.

I pride myself on the relationships I share with my students. I am a friend, a mentor, a teacher, and a student to many of them, often all at once. Sydney was one of the first friends that I made when I moved back to Orange County, and the two of us often exchange long text messages describing our trials and tribulations.

I began reaching out to her once she missed two weeks in a row, which was unheard of for her. She didn’t respond, and I began getting worried. After the third week, I called her to ask where she had been.

After she answered I breathed a sigh of relief, but needless to say I was not prepared for the story she tearfully began to weave for me. As it turned out, her husband of 17 years – let’s call him ‘Brian’ – was being unfaithful, but his infidelity was not the usual affair.

Brian had been acting strangely for quite some time, spending long periods of time in his home office outside of his normal work hours and becoming quite surly when Sydney tried to get him to come out and join the family. He explained it away as stress from his job, and Sydney had accepted the explanation since his workplace had downsized his department recently and he was picking up the slack.

She had only become suspicious after receiving a note from a bank that neither of them used that was requesting some additional information for a new account. After years of letting Brian keep an eye on the finances, she began looking into the money coming in and out of their shared account and noticed he had been transferring money for a few months to an outside account.

She had heard of this happening to other couples before, but couldn’t accuse him of cheating considering he almost never left the house. To get to the bottom of this, she forced him to go run some errands and began searching through his computer.

He had an application that automatically wiped his browser history, but he had saved the banking website credentials. She began going through the history and discovered the recipient of the errant funds – a Ukrainian ‘camgirl’ named Sophia.

Brian had spent tens of thousands of dollars on Sophia over the past seven months. Sydney could not believe it, but Brian sheepishly confirmed upon his return and even revealed that he was already negotiating to bring Sophia to the states and set her up with an apartment nearby.

She was at a loss for what to do. I told her that this was a prime example of financial infidelity, where one partner hides money away from the other using a secret account, and was definitely grounds for divorce if she wanted to pursue the option.

Sydney – and I’m sure all of you! – asked how I would know this, and I told her about my good friend Colleen McNamee, who had gone over this very patiently with me when we were talking about the effects of Seeking Arrangement on modern marriages. Financial infidelity is actually pretty common, and it can be the cause of especially nasty divorce cases!

Learn more by watching her video on the subject:

Luckily, Colleen is an expert in the field of mediation, which gives couples looking to separate a more peaceful method of ending their relationship. We ended the call with me providing her with Colleen’s number. I don’t know if Sydney will end their marriage over this, but I’m glad she has a great resource such as McNamee Mediations if she does.

If you’re going through a similar situation as Sydney, give Colleen a call:

How Artificial Grass Changed My Life as a Yoga Teacher

It is really amazing to have a beautiful lawn in order to spend quality time with your loved ones outdoors. The green grass on the lawn offers stunning curb appeal, not to mention the beauty of nature.

But as a yoga studio owner, I am seriously busy and find it far too difficult to manage the lawn on my own. It demands a lot of effort to care for the lawn; the process often gets too expensive in time and energy. However, I know that lawns need to be well cared for given environmental issues including climate change.

I have enjoyed having real greenery for my lawn for the last decade, but the extensive effort required for maintenance got me motivated to find a reliable alternative to natural lawns. After taking suggestions from some experts, my interest in synthetic grass was piqued, and I finally decided to install artificial turf at my home. These durable synthetic lawns are easier to manage and they maintain a consistent texture for years.

Today I wanted to share some major benefits of installing artificial turf on your lawn:

No maintenance requirement

The biggest reason to use artificial turf for your lawn is that it doesn’t require additional effort for maintenance and management. Once you have installed synthetic grass, there is no need to worry about buying and using a lawnmower, along with everything else that comes with cutting the grass. Artificial lawns can last for years with their impressive durability. Even if you experience a ton of wear and tear on your lawn, artificial turf will remain attractive with simple regular cleaning methods.

No need to water

When it comes to real grass, they require regular watering. But artificial grass does not require this type of routine. You only need to use water to clean the turf, which is very occasionally. While cleaning artificial grass, you may require a short burst of water to take out the dirt and accumulated particles. The best part of this is the reduction in your water utility bills—not to mention how much it will save much of your time as well.

Safe for kids and pets

Parents and pet owners will be happy to hear that one of the benefits of artificial turf is that it comes with an antibacterial finish that can help to prevent the spreading of bacteria and germs. Therefore, children and pets can play safely on the artificial grass in your lawn. There is no need to worry about the harmful impact of fertilizers, pesticides, and toxic chemicals that are otherwise required to maintain natural grass lawns. You can enjoy a vibrant and beautiful lawn at home without using harsh chemicals that are harsh on your soil.

Artificial turf installation is a great choice for all forms of activities. It is cost-effective as well. If you are interested in making an investment for your home’s future, I highly recommend installing artificial grass. You can give NoMow Turf, Inc. – Synthetic Lawns & Putting Greens a call today.

Transform Your Backyard to Disconnect From The Matrix and Reconnect with Mother Earth

As a teacher and student of the practice of yoga, I believe that it is my responsibility to show people how to be more mindful and healthy in their daily lives. Yoga is a way of life—it is not simply what we do at the studio. How can we become better students of the yoga way of life?

Within the past few years, human life is highly influenced by the development of advanced technologies. Things have become convenient and people are enjoying a luxurious lifestyle with the support of feature-rich machines. The Internet is rated as the biggest invention of the era. Ultimately, it has changed the way we used to live.

Nowadays, we can say that human beings are living their life on the internet. Even older adults on top of the youngsters and kids are spending most of their time on the internet. Although it may appear entertaining and engaging, the internet has led to some pitfalls as well. The excessive use of digital media, the internet, and social media has created a considerable threat to our health and well-being.

Today we are discussing the mental health effects of consuming digital media.

Searching Health Symptoms (You know you have done it!) and Anxiety

Whether you spend all your time reading negative news on the internet or continuously searching about your disease symptoms, the excessive use of the internet can increase the anxiety levels of people. Experts say that it is not a good idea to initiate repeated research about your health symptoms on the internet because it can bring worry and unnecessary anxiety to your life. Instead of trying to diagnose your illness by using online sources, it is more effective to schedule an appointment with a reliable doctor in your city and discuss the symptoms you are experiencing.

Social Media and Social Life

Although social media helps us stay connected with extended family and friends, one needs to be careful about how it can affect our psychology. Many studies have reported that excessive use of social media can lead to dependency on virtual connections and response-based relationships. It can further increase the feeling of depression. Moreover, most of the people these days have developed virtual relationships through the world wide wide, prioritizing their in-personsocial life less due to a lack of time. Experts reveal that being surrounded by good people and relationship in real-life can bring more self-esteem, love, and happiness to your life compared to solely having virtual connections.

The problem is that we live in the matrix. We are not spending enough time outdoors, the current global pandemic has worsened our addiction to being slumped over on the couch, scrolling on our phones. For balance to be restored and maintained, the human body must have a connection to nature. That said, I can understand that not everyone has a backyard that is fit for relaxation. The good news is that you can transform the land into an oasis. You can hire an expert in professional Landscape design in San Diego; Torrey Pines Landscaping will design and build the backyard of your dreams. They have been making the dreams of homeowners come true since 1983 as one of the very best service providers in the landscaping industry.

Digital Media and Sleep

Excessive use of the tablet, computer, and smartphones can cause considerable harm to sleep quality. These gadgets release bright light that can block the secretion of the melatonin hormone which plays an important role in sleep regulation. Medical health experts advise keeping these gadgets way from our eyes directly before going to bed. It is beneficial to turn off your phones or social media notifications in the night hours.

There is no doubt to say that technology has many benefits but one should address the appropriate usage cycle for a healthy life. It is better to be more active and present in your lives instead of plugging into the virtual world all the time. Make sure you harness the good force of digital media and the internet while protecting your mental health.

If you are ready to ground yourself through the healing powers of the earth, you can give Torrey Pines Landscape Company a call for your dream backyard transformation.

Yoga Isn’t The Only Way To Find Peace

Hello, class, and namaste!

Today we’re going to be talking a little bit about something that gives people some peace of mind OTHER than yoga: insurance. Specifically, business insurance.

I don’t have to tell anyone that we live in a fairly litigious society – if somebody can possibly get away with suing you, they probably will. This goes double if you own a business that requires a physical location where customers enter to utilize your services or buy your goods.

I own the yoga studio where I instruct daily, and let me tell you, when I made the decision to strike out on my own, the mass of paperwork was absolutely mind boggling! In there were some helpful pamphlets about insurance for small businesses that gave me a small look into the world of civil liability.

I was absolutely dumbstruck by the number of silly things you are liable for the second someone steps foot on your property as a business owner. Stubbing a toe that causes a bad ingrown that requires surgery to fix? Liable! Your business burns down, wiping out everything you built? Sorry, that requires specialized business insurance or you get nothing!

Needless to say, after asking around a bit to ensure the veracity of this booklet’s claims, I made getting business insurance on the same priority level as finding the actual studio itself. I would not let fear of being sued or losing everything in a terrible fire ruin my calm!

That’s when I found the company I’d like to spotlight today, the Byron Galindo Insurance team. Byron is the preeminent agent for State Farm’s business insurance offerings in Santa Monica. I had heard his name passed around on the street before, and when I looked him up, the wildly positive reviews I found on both him and his team really sealed the deal.

For example, Ravi Bhatia, one of Byron’s satisfied customers, has the following to say about him:

In a boring industry, Byron has facilitated NOT boring, borderline genius solutions to solving my business insurance needs here in Santa Monica. He’s always willing to talk through hypothetical scenarios and run tests on different, creative ways to minimize insurance costs, and educate me on the bureaucratic nuances he has to deal with on the day to day. I’ve dealt with many insurance agents in my line of work, and I have not come across a more visionary person in insurance — a field that tends to attract risk-averse, don’t-ruffle-any-feathers types. Above all, though, he’s been an advocate and a friend. I’m grateful to have him in my corner.

If you own any kind of business, whether your customers come to you or you ship your product direct to them, getting business insurance will protect you from being left out in the cold when winter comes and the cold winds blow tree branches through your windows and ruin your stock. Believe me, anything can happen, and you want to make sure that whatever life throws at you, you can rest easy knowing you have great insurance to back you up.

Wine and Yoga – Ingredients For Bliss

Yoga is great for all the reasons that have been explained here in this blog. It is great for your body because it allows for extended periods of stretching and it puts just the right amount of strain so that you break a sweat and improve in strength. Yoga is great for the mind because it really makes you focus in improving what is going on inside just as much as the outside. After all, Yoga is a form of meditation that your body and mind both take part in together. This physical source of meditation is does so many great things for you! In fact, some people say Yoga even helps to settle the soul.

What is the soul? Well this is not the place to delve into that length conversation but for the sake of saying something other than “settling the soul” lets just say your soul, at its very basic form, is energy. We are all made up of it. Energy is a powerful thing that can give us strength and also drive us nuts! Luckily Yoga does help us control this energy in a way. Mind, body, and soul are supposed to be the three things that we are made up of and therefore we should all make sure all three are in order. We can definitely work on the body and mind, the soul however is something else entirely. So while Yoga can help ease a troubled soul to an extent, there is something else we recommend to really ensure your soul gets that needed easing we keep talking about.

Wine. The wonderful red or white liquid with just enough courage in it that can help us relax and also face many of our issues. Couple wine with Yoga and man do you have a dangerous combination of soul easing abilities. Is wine going to help my mind and my body? Absolutely! Everything in moderation is so much better in the long run. In fact, many doctors recommend a glass of red wine a day for the many health benefits that come along with it. So poor that one or two, possibly three glasses of wine and sit down to do some Yoga! What a great idea right?! Well that idea wasn’t hatched here. There is a winery near Los Angeles that is leading the way with a local Yoga studio to do just what we are recommending! Wine down Sundays have become common there at the winery. They love serving all the local yogis in Ventura but have become so popular that many people are making the drive from Los Angeles that enjoy the Sunday yoga class and also the delicious wine they have to offer.

Where does the Yoga class take place you ask? Their stunning barrel room!

You read that right, their beautiful barrel room that can hold up to 160 people! Good thing too. If their yoga and wine class keeps growing in popularity, they are going to need all the space they can get! So next time you are looking to find a place where you can work on your mind, body, and soul, check these guys out! If you go love the space as much as we do, rent it out! Their barrel room is available for all kinds of events! Check out their website to find out how to reserve their event space for your next party! And yes they even do weddings! Did you not see that photo above?! If you are looking for a yoga class, some wine, and even better company, visit their tasting room and barrel room the next time you get the chance.

The Floor Makes the Studio

Ever tried a warrior pose on concrete flooring? Or lotus pose on carpet? It’s tough to really catch your rhythm without the right support and support starts with a sturdy floor. Some of the best dance halls, yoga studios, and even jiu jitsu gyms all rely on top notch hardwood flooring for acoustics, rebound, and stability. Hardwood floors are starting to grow in popularity in homes as well. One could argue that wood satisfies a primal desire for a closeness to nature. The more we have become removed from nature the more we crave a return and wood flooring provides that subconscious connection. Here’s what some of the pros in the industry are saying about the trends in hardwood flooring:

Hardwood flooring has turned into an important portion of the interior decor of any modern home, today. It looks stylish, yet and posh is quite durable. Installing it is not an easy undertaking; but others require professional help, some people can do it themselves. The setup process needs sufficient skills and gear that is suitable. You are required to ensure you have both to get the very best results. You might have to manage catastrophic results, if you do not install it properly.

It’s definitely recommended to fix a subfloor before creating the hardwood flooring. This subfloor fixes supplies an improved platform for preparing the hardwood floors than concrete slabs. Subfloors also lock in wetness which can damage your amazing wooden floorings. In places that have a lot of moisture, like toilets, it’s better to avoid solid hardwood floors and set up laminate hardwood flooring. This laminate flooring isn’t a genuine wood floor but looks like it.

There are various kinds accessible the industry. Subfloors are not required by some and can be easily fixed to the floor. Some floors are nicely engineered ones that could endure a certain amount of wetness. Some have installation procedures that are complex. They might be a much better alternative in comparison with the more affordable ones owing to the truth that if properly installed will continue longer. It is advisable to make a onetime investment than on repairing your floors go for the rest of your lives.

The setup procedure is a one that is very boring and thus you should be properly prepared about it. If you are not confident about it then it is wise to hire professionals. It could charge you extra but you will not have the fear of redoing them. After creating the floor starts the work that is genuine. You’ll be necessary out the entire floor to smooth the rough spots, conceal the nails, and polish it. Finishing the flooring with all the best polish needs time. It also implies that the floor can not be used until it’s dried out.

Austin Texas Flooring

Down in Texas, one flood can wreck an entire neighborhood from floor to ceiling. Texas is no stranger to flash floods and the results can be devastating. Replacing hardwood can require so much more than just pulling up base boards, in extreme cases the foundation itself may need to be inspected for mold or water damage.

For some studios like Yoga Squared in Tustin, Yoga is more about the centering experience than the physical stretching activity. That’s why they use compression treated pine for a warm wood and woodsy smelling studio. Other studios like to use bamboo for maximum flex and durability over years. Hardwood and tile flooring in Austin is pretty much all supplied through my buddy Austin. Right name for the industry right? Anyway, his company can beat almost any price and does a better job on installation than any of the competition. Check them out.

Tasty Tuesday 1.0: Raw and Vegan Cocoa Bites

Chocolate Tapioca and Bliss combine to create these scrumptious and guilt free delights… oh and a pinch of Love.

For the crust

1 cup tapioca meal/flour
¼ cup + 2 Tablespoons raw cocoa powder
3 Tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons melted coconut oil
1 pinch sea salt

For the filling

2 cups raw cashews, soaked and rinsed
1/2 cup organic peanut butter
½ cup coconut oil, melted
½ cup maple syrup
½ cup cocoa powder
½ cup water
½ teaspoon salt

For the chocolate sauce

1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
1.5 teaspoon vanilla
1/3  cup maple syrup
1/3 cup cocoa powder
Prep Time: Approximately 1 hour

Blend all ingredients for the crust together in a food processor until it starts to come together. Press the crust into the bottom of desired pan that has been spread in coconut oil (round pie pan or muffin pan).  Place in freezer while you making the filling. Desserts will be easier to remove if pan is generously covered in oil.

In a food processor or mixer blend together cashews, maple syrup, water and salt. Mix until totally smooth, scraping down the sides of the processor as necessary. Add cocoa powder, peanut butter and coconut oil to the cashew mixture and blend them all together, scraping down again, until mixture is uniformly combined.

Spoon the filling on top of the crust. Mix all chocolate sauce ingredients and pour over filling. Place dessert in freezer for 2-4 hours

Once frozen, cut the desserts into small squares and remove from the pan. If using a silicone mold they will easily pop out. If you have a muffin tin, run a sharp, hot knife around the edges of each cheesecake, flip the tin upside down and give it a few good whacks against the counter. They should start to slowly side out at this point. Be patient, gravity is on your side. If a few minutes have passed and the cheesecakes are still refusing to drop, use a lighter to heat the bottom of the tin briefly; the heat will help release the cake.
Place the square bites in the refrigerator or freezer (I prefer them frozen and with a cup of coffee).
This recipe makes the equivalent of a 9 inch round of Raw Vegan Chocolate Tapioca Bites
